The Crown Jewel of Beijing

For over 500 years, the Forbidden City served as the home of emperors and their households, as well as the ceremonial and political center of the Chinese government. Built from 1406 to 1420, the complex consists of 980 buildings and covers 72 hectares. It exemplifies traditional Chinese palatial architecture and has influenced cultural and architectural developments in East Asia and elsewhere. Today, known as the Palace Museum, it houses one of the largest collections of preserved ancient wood structures in the world. Visitors can explore the vast courtyards, gaze upon the Dragon Throne, and view an immense collection of artwork and artifacts from the Ming and Qing dynasties. A visit here is not just a tour; it is a journey back in time to the height of imperial power.
